At work today --

guy: *asking if we carry orchids.*

me: *points behind him to the big round display thing absolutely covered in them* They're all right there. ^_^ All of those are orchids. *they're the potted kind, round petals, not quite like the corsage orchids*

guy: *eyes them funny* -Those- are orchids? But they don't -look- like the ones my friend had...

me: They're orchids, I swear. That's the species we carry here, of them.

guy: But it says they're Phalaenopsis. *eyeing the little tag on the stem*

me: Yeah, they are. That's the name for these orchids.

guy: *giving me a funny look* ...you're sure?

me: Yup. It's like how I can say that I regularly enjoy eating the roasted, toasted, crushed-up neonates of the Arachis hypogaea.

guy: *now looking at me like OMG WTF? girl's out of her mind. o_o*

me: *trying SO hard not to crack up at his expression* What, you don't like peanut butter too?

guy: *takes him a moment, but he kinda laughs when he realizes* Oh.

customers: *been getting their stuff rung up during the exchange -- friends of this guy, judging by how they were all talking just before he headed off to look at the plants beside the register* *laughing now -- they got the joke too. Sometimes, customers are fun.*







In other news...

Spinach mushroom pizza. Yum.

I've browbeaten Windows XP into behaving (for the most part) like Windows 2000. It's still not 100% back to how I'd like it, but it's workable now without royally pissing me off every ten minutes. (but... does anyone know how to make it sort filenames with numbers like previous Windows versions did? I want it to do like W2k and list "0422b-05052k7" AFTER "04092k7", not before. This new list-it-before thing is going to drive me slowly up the wall. Only Spidey needs to be up there.)

Drawn To Life is an insanely cute game for the Nintendo DS, and I've been spending more time designing the props and my char than I have actually playing it. Haha... Go figure.

Going to buy the next installment of the Phoenix Wright courtroom drama series for DS tomorrow, the one that doesn't feature Phoenix Wright as your main char. Can't wait.

Rock Band is beyond addictive. And I got a 100% flawless playthrough on med-difficulty bass for "Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- Maps" ....actually, I'm thinking I need to find my headset mic and try both singing and playing bass for it at once. That'll be fun. It's an easyish song, but I love it. (I'm finding new love for about every song in this game, actually. Except the damn Honest Bob song. And the Beastie Boys. Ugh, Beastie Boys. At least they didn't put any System of a Down on there. shudder.)

Chasing my littlest brother to bed at 2am: annoying.

Playing Rock Band with him: fun. He's getting really good with the guitar. And the drums. I still trump him at singing, though. Total pwnage there.

Stealing my little TFs back from him: not so fun. High Score is my cute little Autobot PS2 controller, dammit.

Having an intellectual debate with him over the details of movies, and discussing the engine similarities between several console games: priceless. I wish I knew more people like him when I was that age. It would've been nice to have actual peers. :/ Maybe I wouldn't have been such a total loner bookworm.

Speaking of social: still not very. Sorry. Does feel good to barely touch msn or aim or anything on my comp, though. Mmm, time to myself. Almost forgot what that was like. Starting to get back into doing art again, finally.

Kind of (read: incredibly) discouraging, to come back to DA now and then, only to find that it's gone mostly to hell. Ex-GD of lit, !ndifference was banned, come to find out -- anyone know why, beyond that he disagreed with the admin(s) on something? He always struck me as an incredibly mature and intelligent person, not one of the ban-worthy trolls who keep getting off free here while people who only post civilly, yet in the wrong place at the wrong time get perma-banned and... well, okay, maybe that very well could sum up why he's gone. But if anyone knows, note me. I'm curious.

Though now that I've so much as mentioned said situation, maybe I'll get banned too. That seems to be a trend on dA lately. In fact, one of my better friends was hit with the ban-stick, and she hadn't even broken any rules. I'm about ready to throw in my vote of No Confidence and leave dA, if this is the admins' consistant behavior, and I'm starting to suspect that it is, too. Some of them, at least.

I really hate that there are people who're trolls or otherwise just plain rotten, who aren't dealt with, because they ass-kiss and are popular, against all reason. May the light of justice someday shine on those who are sheltered due to cries of "woe is me, I'm SO harried!" for being unable to cope with the fact that they aren't flawless, and that someone might (gasp!) try to point out where they could improve, or call them on utterly deplorable behavior. (and I've run into employees where I work that fall under this category. sadly, it very much isn't restricted to the internet.)

And about that new art I'm trying to get back into -- I'm thinking I'll try a few prints here, maybe, if I don't have to pay to do so. If they sell enough to justify a prints account, I might get one. I dunno. Doubtful I'll post a whole lot overall even if I do. And with the way the place is run lately, I'll likely be ignoring most of the social aspect of it and staying mum if I can sell a few, just so I don't end up on the wrong end of a banstick for... who knows. For making a joke, or voicing a potentially negative opinion about someone or something?

I hope I won't get banned for simply pointing out why I'm not satisfied with dA so much any more. :/

Might well get onto ConceptArt. At least with them, I'd probably have more opportunity to grow. It's the community for that, after all.
